Katie Klossner asked if different age groups and schools were represented in the
finalist selection and members directed staff to verify.
Installations would be completed in July and August for an August program launch.
Staff Updates
Staff provided the updates described below.
The production of the giant Adirondack chair featuring Lynn Hurley’s artwork was
delivered to Castle Rock this week and placed at Festival Park. Due to the high
quality of submissions received to the art call, it was determined by Parks and
Recreation staff to request the production of an additional chair to be featured at
Philip S. Miller Park. This chair will feature a design that was submitted by artist
Jason Tracewell that was later modified per staff recommendations. The second
chair has been ordered and will likely also be delivered this summer. Member
Katie Klossner suggested installing plaques with the artwork title and reference to
the Public Art Commission with a QR code near the chairs. Katie also asked if the
commission could work with the Town’s Communications Division to create an
independent logo.
Town Manager Dave Corliss would be attending board and commission meetings
throughout July and August to provide educational information on upcoming ballot
initiatives. Dave planned to attend the August meeting of the Public Art
Commission meeting.
Member Dana Frazee coordinated with the Chamber of Commerce on Artfest
attendance and believed that all arts groups would be placed adjacent to one
another at the event, including the Tri Arts Project, the Castle Rock Artist Alliance
and the Public Art Commission. Members discussed ordering shirts to wear at
Artfest, promoting the Tiny Art Quest, offering giveaways to participants who find
all Tiny Art Quest installations, ordering holiday cards to sell and promote the
Holiday Card Art Contest and potentially hosting some type of survey or data
collection.
A random pastel on canvas was discovered at Town Hall and can become a part
of the Town’s public art collection. Staff will plan to complete additional research
on the piece as time allows.
