RED HAWK RIDGE GOLF COURSE UPDATES
Jeff Brauer, Director of Parks and Recreation, provided an update on Red Hawk
Ridge Golf Course to commission members. He shared that the course has
experienced significant growth, increasing from 35,000 rounds and $3.3 million in
revenue in 2020 to 59,000 rounds and a record $5 million in sales in 2024.
In 2024, the course completed $220,000 in capital projects and is projected to
contribute $200,000 to the reserve fund, bringing the total reserve to $3.9 million.
Completed capital improvements included a new practice putting green, interior
and exterior painting, new carpet, upgraded lighting, new restaurant furniture, an
entry sign above the clubhouse door, and two new coolers in the restaurant.
Jeff praised the restaurant management team, Gabby and Spencer, who have
significantly improved food quality, expanded menu options, and enhanced service
since joining in 2022. They have also expanded operations by catering Town of
Castle Rock functions and private events. The restaurant achieved record sales of
$830,000 this year. Jeff also thanked the team for providing dinner for the meeting.
The golf course continues to be in high demand, selling out daily from 6:30 AM to
7:30 PM during peak season. All leagues are full, with healthy waitlists, and the
course hosted 38 company tournaments throughout 2024.
Jeff also expressed appreciation for maintenance staff Jon Holland and Billy
LaFleur, noting that the course receives numerous compliments each day for its
excellent conditions.
Red Hawk Ridge also received two CAGGY awards from Colorado Avid Golfer
magazine in 2024: Best Denver Region Course and Best Conditions.
PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT COMMENTS
Jeff Brauer reported that he, along with Justin Spring from The Conservation Fund
and Dan Dertz from Douglas County Open Space, presented the Blue Grama
Award to the Douglas County Commissioners the previous day. The
Commissioners acknowledged the value of the region’s open space preservation
efforts and emphasized the importance of promoting health and wellness within
the community.
Assistant Director Jeff Smullen shared that Confluence Companies would present
the proposed Brickyard development to the Planning Commission on December
12. The company plans to seek approval from the Town Council in 2025. Town
staff are currently reviewing the project’s financing and development agreements,
including setting the groundwork for the Sports Center which was estimated at $73
million. If approved, both the Brickyard development and the accompanying Sports
Center could begin construction in 2025.
Jeff Brauer closed staff comments by thanking the commission for their time,
service and commitment throughout 2024.
