Executive Summary
Douglas County Art Encounters is a year-long outdoor exhibit that showcases a variety of sculptures in highly visible areas of Castle Rock, Highlands Ranch, Lone Tree, Parker and Roxborough. The project is designed to promote public interest in art, develop community pride and draw visitors to retail and civic areas.
The County’s Public Art Advisory Committee with representatives from the participating municipalities select artwork submitted to a call for entries. This year’s call has been posted. The call will close on February 17 and a selection meeting is scheduled at 11 a.m. on March 1. Once selections are made, installations will occur throughout the spring to be featured from spring 2023 through spring 2024.
Staff now recommend confirming a designated representative to attend the selection meeting. Staff also recommend considering whether to move February’s regular meeting for after February 17 or to motion to approve hosting a special meeting for the purposes of ranking finalists for the selection meeting.
