Douglas County Art Encounters Update and Special Meeting Request

Executive Summary
For over a decade, the Town has participated in Douglas County Art Encounters. This program provides rotating art exhibits to the residents of Douglas County in various media and styles. Displayed in highly visible areas in Castle Rock, Highlands Ranch, Lone Tree, Parker and Roxborough, new sculptures are installed each year to promote public interest in art, develop community pride, foster community character and draw visitors to retail and civic areas.
Staff attended a Public Art Advisory Committee meeting in December and a summary of the discussion is included in Attachment A.
Staff Recommendation
The call for submissions for this year’s program closes on Feb. 19. Because the selection meeting is scheduled for March 2, staff recommend either scheduling a special meeting during this timeframe to rank selections for Castle Rock in addition to the February meeting, or to cancel the meeting and simply host a special meeting. the regularly February meeting to this timeframe.

“I move to hold a special meeting of the Public Art Commission on (insert date) for the purposes of ranking the submissions received for the 2022 Douglas County Art Encounters Program.”
Or…
“I move to cancel the regularly-scheduled February 2022 Public Art Commission meeting and to hold a special meeting on (insert date) for the purposes of ranking the submissions received for the 2022 Douglas County Art Encounters Program.”
