Executive Summary

The purpose of this agenda item is to inquire and discuss how Parks and Recreation Commission members view the future of parks and recreation services post-pandemic. During the pandemic, public parks became more important to residents and more essential to the community’s health and well-being than perhaps at any previous time. As families are now transitioning from staying at home to in-person programs and gathering indoors, they’re also remembering the value of recreation facilities and community activities, including sports, special events and summer camps. Public demand has required agencies across the country to be as flexible as possible, even as they safely return to offering wellness.
