Title
2021-2022 Douglas County Art Encounters Program
Body
________________________________________________________________________________
Executive Summary
For over a decade, the Town has participated in Douglas County Art Encounters. This program provides rotating exhibits to the residents of Douglas County in various media and styles. Displayed in highly visible areas in Castle Rock, Highlands Ranch, Lone Tree, Parker and Roxborough, new sculptures are installed each year to promote public interest in art, develop community pride, foster community character and draw visitors to retail and civic areas.
A Public Art Advisory Committee with representatives from throughout Douglas County selects sculptures from applications submitted to a call for entries. The Committee functions under the direction of the Douglas County Cultural Council. Since Susan Paulsen was the Commission’s appointed representative, a new representative will need to be considered as she has since resigned.
Douglas County posted the 2021-2022 Art Encounters Call for Entries in late December; applications will be due on February 19. Because the annual selection meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 3 at 11 a.m., one of the February or Marcy regularly-scheduled Commission meetings may need to be rescheduled to be held later or earlier after the submissions are received or the Commission may elect to hold a special meeting.
