Discussion/Direction: Designations of Town Council Liaisons to Boards and Commissions and Other Agencies

Executive Summary
Attached to this agenda item is a listing of the Town boards and commission with preferences for possible service as indicated by councilmembers. This item is on the January 5 agenda Town Council Comments section of the agenda for Council discussion and direction on the designations. For those councilmembers that indicated a ranking of their preferences we have provided that, for others we just indicated an interest. Councilmembers are listed in alphabetical order. Past practice of Council has been for one councilmember to be designated as the primary liaison, with an alternate who can also attend (or be specifically asked to attend if the primary liaison is unable to attend). Also as a matter of Council practice, Council liaisons generally are available at the board meetings to provide input upon request and provide updates on matters before Council. In the case of the Downtown Development Authority (DDA), the primary liaison from Council is the voting member of the DDA, while the alternate is not a voting member.
For next Tuesday, in the cases where multiple councilmembers have indicated an interest in a specific board or commission, staff recommends that Councilmembers discuss among themselves at Tuesday’s meeting their respective interests. After discussions then Council should vote for each specific assignment as appropriate and necessary.
