Executive Summary
The Public Art Commission’s Public Art Plan identifies the goal to, “Create pedestrian-scale art experiences downtown that add vitality and encourage people to walk around.” To this end, the Public Art Commission subcommittee was established by the Public Art Commission in August 2020 with the intent of researching and aiding the selection of art projects for Downtown Castle Rock for execution in 2021.
At its at-large November meeting, the Commission received an update from member Jen Perry, who presented a Painting Positivity campaign in which the Commission could partner with the Castle Rock Artist Cooperative. The Cooperative was recently awarded a $10k grant and the Commission was receptive to a partnership; downtown would remain a large focus of the campaign, along with a positive-themed mural. At its at-large December meeting, the Commission approved allocating up to $15,000 towards this campaign in 2021.
Planning discussions will continue between PAC’s subcommittee and the Cooperative’s subgroup on Wednesday, December 31 at 4 p.m.
