Title
Resolution Extending the Declared Disaster by the Town Council and the Town Manager
Body
________________________________________________________________________________
Discussion
At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Town Council by resolution declared a disaster within the Town. This action enabled the Town to engage in practices like holding Town Council meetings virtually and receiving federally funded reimbursements for pandemic-related expenses.
The current disaster declaration is set to expire December 31. In anticipation of potential future federal financial resources - which could be used to continue assisting small local businesses through the financial crisis that has resulted from public health orders - staff is requesting Council extend its disaster declaration through June 30, 2021.
The proposed extension would not be irrevocable - Council could at any point prior to this suggested end date take action to declare the disaster has ended. Staff believes the proposed end date provides a reasonable timeframe through when the Town may expect to continue incurring pandemic-related expenses and providing impact-related financial support to local businesses, should federal resources for such initiatives remain available.
Proposed Motion
“I move to approve the resolution as introduced by title.”
