Arts Month and Survey Promotion

Executive Summary

October is National Arts and Humanities Month, and to promote the value of public art and encourage engagement, the Commission discussed advertising its survey and the use of Otocast at its September meeting. The Parks and Recreation Department’s Customer Relations Specialist, Lisa Sorbo, will be present to provide a plan for the promotion of these items and gather feedback from Commission members.

Commission member Jen Perry also provided the following suggestions to assist with the discussion on how to further promote the survey; staff comments are provided following appropriate points:

1. Downtown Alliance (and ask them to share with their employees, etc.) (Jen attended their October board meeting to present the survey)

2. Ask the Community Relations division if they would be willing to share the survey on the Town's social media channels two to three times throughout October (The Community Relations Division has indicated they would be able to issue a press release for survey. When a press release is issued, it gets posted to the Town’s social media channels. Lisa Sorbo can then work with Community Relations to complete follow up posts depending on engagement levels.)

3. If we do a news release for the dedication, put it in the footer with the description, and ask anyone in attendance at the event (see staff comments under point two)

4. Ask the Castle Rock Artist Cooperative if they would be willing to share the survey with their membership (Staff would be able to send a link to the survey to Paul Price, the Executive Director of the Castle Rock Artist Cooperative)

5. Ask the Human Resources division if they would be willing to share the survey with Town employees (when the press release for the survey gets issued, it will be distributed to all Town employees)

6. Each of us shares it with our friends and family network; some neighborhood associations will share this too

7.  There are several local e-newsletters and social media channels with a good following - reach out and see if we can ask for coverage in those; Jen would need a little time to put together a list

8.  Ask the Chamber if they would be willing to share it with their members (Staff would be happy to contact the Chamber to inquire about this possibility)

9.  Maybe give some collective thought to the groups that members are affiliated with to see if any are willing to share a simple link, especially since it isn't asking for anything but an opinion and is non-political

10. Put it out on Nextdoor in neighborhoods

Staff recommends that the Commission discuss these options for promotion and provide staff future direction as appropriate.
