Staff presented a report to Town Council on February 4, 2020 regarding the projected increase to the senior population in the coming years.  This report identified that a shift in demographics is expected to result in roughly one in five Castle Rock residents being 65 or older by 2030 - and increase of about 7% from current demographics.  Staff identified existing programs and potential impacts to Town departments and other resources available to the senior population.  Additionally, recommendations were provided in the report including development of a Senior Resources page on the Town website.

As an update, Town staff has developed and published the Senior Resources page, available at CRgov.com/seniors <http://www.CRgov.com/seniors>.  This page includes information on existing senior services offered by the Town including recreation, the taxi voucher and Castle Rock Water discount programs.  Additionally, links to the Castle Rock Senior Activity Center, State property tax exemption/deferral programs and DRCOG are also available.  Below is a sample of the current Senior Resources webpage.

This page is not intended to provide direct links to all available resources, but can direct seniors to Town departments and other Town partners who also offer resources for seniors.  This site will be updated to reflect program changes or additional resources as appropriate.

Other recommendations included in the Aging Population report included senior education and the consideration to undergo the DRCOG Boomer Bond Assessment in the future.  Staff will continue to monitor impacts of this demographic shift and report back to Town Council as appropriate.
