Executive Summary

 

Per Commissioners request, staff has included an agenda item to provide a summary of the Public Art Fund. Due to the start of the new fiscal year, however, staff have yet to receive updated reporting information related to the fund. Staff should be able to better provide this information in February.

 

In mid-December 2019, the balance of the Public Art Fund’s 2019 Amended Budget was $80,000 with additional revenues of $21,280. Last year, the Commission anticipated spending a total of approximately $76,829.04:

 

                     $50,000 on the Philip S. Miller Park Art Project, Tree of Wings

                     $19,975 on the purchase of Thought of a Treble Clef

                     $342 for a plaque for Thought of a Treble Clef

                     $4,750 on the 2019-2020 Art Encounters program (which budgets $4,000 for artists stipends, $250 for judging and $500 for awards and plaques)

                     $1,250 was allotted as a donation to the Castle Rock Museum to commission a watercolor painting

                     $95.49 for framing services for the Castle Rock Museum print

                     $416.55 for Artfest expenses, which included:

§                     $49.99 canvas for paint-by-numbers project,

§                     $52.99 for paint supplies,

§                     $176.38 for production of fliers,

§                     $16.54 for hanging and storage supplies,

§                     $80.03 for banner, and,

§                     $40.62 for framing costs for the Rock paint by numbers

 

According to the most recent Castle Rock Parks and Trails Foundation report, the Public Art Commission has an additional $1,284.75 available in donations. When using these funds, the selection of artwork for parks shall be at the discretion of the Foundation, provided however, members from the Town of Castle Rock’s Public Art Commission shall assist the Foundation in the selection of the artwork.
