Discussion/Direction: Repair of Dancing Moon IV

Executive Summary
The responsibility of determining locations for Town-owned sculptures belongs to the Public Art Commission. It has been noted that Dancing Moon IV will need to be relocated due to roundabout development off of East Plum Creek Parkway and Gilbert Street, where the sculpture is currently placed.
While Commission members researched relocation options, Commission Chair Steve Maruska identified damage to the glass component of the piece. While staff had reached out to the artist to inquire about the cost and process of repair, the artist had not been respondent. Staff have since gotten in touch with the artist and she has offered to fix the piece by reusing and refusing the existing glass with new glass. She also offered to visit Castle Rock to place the new glass piece inside the existing steel structure. The artist explained that she will charge a nominal fee of a few hundred dollars for time and materials.
Park Operations and Maintenance staff have been notified of the need to relocate the sculpture and place it in storage until repairs are complete. The relocation will occur before the end of January, per the timeline provided by the Public Works Department.
Staff Recommendation
Staff recommend the Commission consider whether or not to proceed with repairing the sculpture using the original artist.
