Tree of Wings Project Update

Executive Summary
In 2018, the Public Art Commission approved the selection of artists Mary Williams and John King for the public art project at Philip S. Miller Park. The artists will design, fabricate, finish, deliver and install an original kinetic sculpture in 2019, Tree of Wings.
Throughout November, the electrical connection to the sculpture site was completed and the light casings were installed. Project artists also provided photos of their work completing the sculpture’s finishing touches, which can be viewed in Attachment A. On December 4, the foundation was poured by Park Operations and Maintenance staff with on-site management from Mary Williams. Photos of the foundation pour can be viewed in Attachment B. The final sculpture is scheduled to be installed next Tuesday, December 16, weather permitting.
Staff Recommendation
Staff recommends that the Commission discuss potential dedication days/times given the proximity of the project’s completion.
The artists have also requested that Commissioners review the proposed plaque information in Attachment C and provide any suggestions prior to order placement.
