Title
Discussion/Direction: Relocation of Dancing Moon IV
Body
________________________________________________________________________________
Executive Summary
The responsibility of determining proper locations for Town-owned sculptures belongs to the Public Art Commission. At the October meeting, it was noted that Dancing Moon IV will need to be relocated due to roundabout development off of East Plum Creek Parkway and Gilbert Street, where the sculpture is currently placed. It was also noted that Keystone to the Castle may need to be relocated due to potential roundabout construction off of Wilcox Street near I-25.
Since October, staff at the Public Works Department have confirmed that a sculpture relocation anytime from now through January would work with the project’s timeline. Commission members have also been busy researching relocation options; these recommendations can be referenced in Attachments A-C. In addition, after inspecting the piece, Chair Steve Maruska identified damage that will need to be repaired. A photo of the extent of damage can be referenced in Attachment D. Staff have reached out to the artist to inquire about the cost and process of repair.
Staff Recommendation
Staff recommend the Commission discuss repair options for Dancing Moon IV, in addition to relocation sites. Storing the piece until it can be properly repaired and then relocated may also be considered.
