Executive Summary
The Town of Castle Rock owns approximately thirteen sculptures. Since it is the role of the Public Art Commission to serve as the stewards of the public art program - creating, planning, overseeing and promoting public art initiatives through collaboration - the responsibility of determining proper locations for these sculptures belongs to the Commission. An inventory of sculptures owned by the Town can be referenced in Attachment A.
Dancing Moon IV was purchased in 2011 and installed at the northeast corner of Plum Creek Parkway and Gilbert Street. Construction on a roundabout at this intersection, however, is anticipated to begin this fall/winter, starting with underground utility work. Due to the anticipated construction, this sculpture will likely need to be relocated. In addition, due to the redevelopment of Festival Park in 2017, Fire Dances in the Shadows was moved to Red Hawk Ridge Golf Course.
Staff Recommendation
Staff recommend that the Commission discuss its current inventory of sculptures and sculpture locations. Staff further recommend that the Commission provide direction on relocations as deemed appropriate.
