Executive Summary
In 2018, the Public Art Commission approved the selection of artists Mary Williams and John King for the public art project at Philip S. Miller Park. The artists will design, fabricate, finish, deliver and install an original kinetic sculpture in 2019, Tree of Wings.
Now that roughly two-thirds of production is complete, the Commission plans to visit John King’s studio in Lyons to view the piece and determine colors. At its August meeting, the Commission approved a special meeting for this visit at noon on Thursday, September 26. This visit has been posted as a public meeting.
Staff Recommendation
Staff recommend that the Commission review the proposed itinerary in Attachment A and provide feedback to confirm logistics for the visit.
Staff further recommend that the Commission discuss a dedication event for the sculpture unveiling so an initial plan can be considered by Mary Williams and John King during the site visit.
