Executive Summary
Staff would like to update the Commission regarding the following items.
Art Frame
POST Partners Volunteer Coordinator, Marcy Jones, contacted Douglas County High School to inquire as to whether or not an art class may consider updating the Art Frame located near the Recreation Center as a project. Art teacher, Brooke Speegle, worked with students to put together a design (Attachment A). Marcy is hoping the students will be able to complete the project this semester. Commissioners are welcome to provide input on the design as they deem appropriate.
Gathering of LAA March Meeting
Staff Liaison Aman and Vice Chair Joyce Volp attended the March meeting of the Local Arts Agencies (LAA). Meeting attendees toured the PACE Center and The Schoolhouse in Parker. Parker’s Cultural Director, Elaine Mariner, also presented a financial analysis of the Parker Arts Department, which can be referenced in Attachment A. The next LAA meeting will be held in June at a more northern location. In the interim, various LAA participants will be working to compare additional data across agencies to continue resource sharing and promote dialogue. LAA is also considering presenting at the 97th Annual Colorado Municipal League Conference in Breckenridge to promote the importance of arts and culture for economic development within communities to policy makers and advocacy groups.
Future Agenda Items
Future agenda items could include a discussion to commission a tree stump sculpture in Festival Park; assessing Castle Rock’s existing art inventory with the intent of researching a future maintenance and conservation plan, as well as cataloging programs such as Art Archive or Cartegraph; and, planning for future art placement in Downtown Castle Rock.
