Executive Summary
Per Commissioners request, staff is providing a brief summary regarding the current state of the Public Art Fund.
In January 2019, the beginning balance of the Public Art Fund was $75,848 with additional revenues of $25,401. This year the Commission anticipates spending $50,000 on the Philip S. Miller Park Art Project, purchasing Thought of a Treble Clef for $19,975 (pending budget amendment approval) and paying approximately $5,550 on the 2019-2020 Art Encounters program (which budgets $4,800 for artists stipends, $250 for judging and $500 for awards and plaques).
According to the most recent Castle Rock Parks and Trails Foundation report, the Public Art Commission has an additional $1,284.75 available in donations. When using these funds, the selection of artwork for parks shall be at the discretion of the Foundation, provided however, members from the Town of Castle Rock’s Public Art Commission shall assist the Foundation in the selection of the artwork.
