Title
Discussion/Direction: Potential Purchase of 2018-2019 Art Encounters Pieces
Body
________________________________________________________________________________
Discussion
The pieces on display through the Countywide Art Encounters program generally are for sale. At previous meetings, the Commission has expressed interest in potentially purchasing Thought of a Treble Clef, on display near the Amphitheater at Philip S. Miller Park or other pieces that exist in the current inventory. The 2018-2019 Art Encounters inventory can be referenced in Attachment A.
John Banks, artist of Thought of a Treble Clef, has agreed to sell the piece at $19,975, which would include the Town’s 15 percent commission as part of the contract (Attachment B).
Financial Information
After considering the expenditures required for the Philip S. Miller Park Art Project, $15,000 would be available for expenditure in 2019 in the Public Art Fund. An additional 5,550 is budgeted for the 2019-2020 Art Encounters Program, leaving $9,500 available to spend without a budget amendment. Ultimately, Town Council approval via a budget amendment would be required to purchase the sculpture.
Recommendation
Staff recommends that the Commission discuss potential purchase(s) and provide staff direction.
