Executive Summary

The Department’s POST Partners Volunteer Program works with Boy Scouts ages 15-18 seeking to obtain the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) organization. The Eagle Scout Service Project is the opportunity for a Boy Scout to demonstrate leadership while performing a project for the benefit of the community. The project represents the culmination of the Scout’s leadership training and should require significant effort. The project must also benefit an organization other than the BSA. Completing an Eagle Project is a requirement for obtaining the Eagle Scout rank.

When working with the Town, Scouts can choose from a list of available projects that are pre-approved by the Park Planning and Park Operations and Maintenance Divisions. In 2018, POST Partners worked with Boy Scouts to complete four projects that were identified as sustainable additions to parks and trails. Staff are currently in discussions with seven Boy Scouts to plan potential 2019 projects - Stephen Zukowski being one of the seven. Stephen’s project is to map and color code the trail network at Ridgeline Open Space to mirror the network at Philip S. Miller Park. The project will help the Castle Rock community and trail users by improving ease of navigation and safety.

Stephen will provide Commission members with an informative update regarding the future project and its impact to Ridgeline Open Space.
