Executive Summary

 

The Douglas County Art Encounters program is a year-long outdoor art exhibit that showcases a number of sculptures, in various media and styles, displayed in highly visible areas in Castle Rock, Highlands Ranch, Lone Tree, Parker and Roxborough. The project is designed to promote public interest in art, develop community pride and draw visitors to the retail or civic areas where they are displayed.  All art is for sale to the general public.

 

At the October, 2018 Public Art Commission meeting, Commissioners directed that staff provide the Commission with a list of the program’s current inventory, which can be referenced in Attachment A.

 

It is the intent of the Commission to review the current pieces to assess the desire or possibility of purchasing any of the sculptures for permanent installation.  This discussion may take place now or at a future meeting, per the Commission’s request.  Staff simply want Commissioners to be able to reference the inventory of art.

 

The Town of Castle Rock shall receive a 15 percent commission for any of the sculptures that are sold as part of the Art Encounters program within their jurisdiction.
