Discussion

Lieutenant/Paramedic Matthew Rettmer is being recognized for his successful completion of the Executive Fire Officer program at the National Fire Academy, and is the fifth person in the fire and rescue department to complete this program.

From the USFA website. “The National Fire Academy’s (NFA) Executive Fire Officer Program (EFOP) provides senior fire officers with a broad perspective on various facets of fire and emergency services administration. The courses and accompanying research examine how to exercise leadership when dealing with difficult or unique problems within communities.”  Only the top one percent of the nation’s fire officers are selected to participate in this program.

The EFO program consists of four graduate level courses, each delivered as a two-week on campus course, over a four year period.  At the completion of each class, an applied research project that relates to the department is due within six months of the last day of class.  This rigorous program has specific classes that address executive development, community risk reduction, fire service operations in emergency management, and executive leadership.

Lieutenant/Paramedic Matthew Rettmer is being presented his certificate of completion, issued by Administrator G. Keith Bryant of the United States Fire Administration (USFA) and Superintendent Tonya Hoover of the National Fire Academy (NFA), which confers upon him the title of Executive Fire Officer.
