Sweet Tooth Sculpture Update

Body

Executive Summary

Staff followed up with Downtown Alliance staff with regard to “Sweet Tooth,” the bronze bear presently located near Mountain Man at Fourth and Perry. The Alliance officially conveyed ownership of the sculpture to the Commission at its September meeting. The Alliance also requested that the statute stay in the Downtown area.

At the August Public Art Commission meeting, Commissioners advised staff to research placing the bear sculpture at the northwest intersection of Fourth and Perry streets under a tree near the sidewalk. Staff did confirm that the parcel is Town-owned property. Traffic Operations Engineer, Jacob Vargish, also performed a sight line review for the intersection. Vargish’s recommended placement to minimize blocking vehicle sight lines can be referenced in Attachment A.

Once official documentation is received from the Downtown Alliance, staff will work to insure the sculpture and move it to the location desired by the Commission.

A photo of the proposed location can be referenced in Attachment B.
