Discussion

Community Relations creates communications plans for Town projects and initiatives that require public education. Each plan establishes the key messages to be communicated related to a project, as well as the communications tools to be used, including social media, printed materials and videos.

The division presently has nine active communications plans:

                     November charter election (Attachment A)

                     2019 Budget

                     Wolfensberger roundabout

                     Plum Creek design feedback

Name the next park in The Meadows

                     Your Tax Dollars at Work

                     Redistricting

                     Pavement Maintenance Program

                     Tunes for Trails/Perks for Parks

Additionally, there are at least four communications plans on the horizon in the near term, including plans regarding the Fire Chief finalists and the landfill remediation at Miller’s Landing.

Staff is glad to provide Council additional information regarding any current or upcoming communications plans as requested.

Additional performance objectives for Community Relations are presently under review, as the division is in transition. Revised performance objectives will be established within the 2019 Budget and will be reported on beginning in 2019.

Community Relations staff in July distributed 22 news releases and 17 email newsletters and approved 146 updates on the Town’s three websites. Following are some social media statistics from July:

229 posts among Facebook, Twitter, Nextdoor, LinkedIn and YouTube

Among the most notable engagement was:

Castle Rock Police’s Lip Sync Challenge video reached 1,873,940 people, saw 854,376 views and drew 94,655 reactions, comments and shares on Facebook; an additional 240,010 views came on YouTube, for a total of nearly 1.1 million views - by far the Town’s most viral video ever
