Executive Summary

Castle Rock Water is committed to providing high quality water to our customers, sharing best practices and advancing water technologies across the state of Colorado. In March of this year, Castle Rock Water was awarded the Gold Tier in the Pursuing Excellence Program, for the third year in a row. The award is presented by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment to recognize systems that go above and beyond regulatory compliance. The program helps systems collaborate and learn from each other.

In addition to meeting all water quality and compliance requirements and providing our standard operational procedures for source water protection measures, treatment goals and distribution components, Castle Rock Water submitted four action plans described below:

CRconserve.com - To assist our residents in advancing our conservation efforts, this Town-specific website was updated with new interactive tools, such as an irrigation calculator, low-water use plant list and neighborhood weather stations.

Emergency Response Plan - Originally created in response to the Federal Bioterrorism Act of 2002, this update to the ERP assessed vulnerabilities and identified specific risks to provide a practical, working document with clear dissemination of actions and responsibilities.

Internships - In an effort to introduce students to the water industry, this program provides the opportunity for high school students to spend several weeks with water professionals, including engineering, operations, field services and business administration.

In-house models -  Bringing the financial modeling in-house provides greater confidence in project planning and factors impacting the models allowing for better planning decisions to ensure smooth rate changes. While still assessed by a third-party, developing the models in-house has significantly reduced consulting fees.
