Discussion/Direction: Placement of 2018-19 Art Encounters Pieces

Discussion
Update: Staff has continued working to place the two unresolved pieces from the March discussion, Mr. Toolman and Stainless Wings II. Staff proposes placing Mr. Toolman at Metzler Ranch Community Park and Stainless Wings II at Butterfield Crossing Park (location pictured in Attachment A). With the Commission’s concurrence, staff will finalize the contracts with the artists and get the pieces placed.
Following February’s 2018-19 Art Encounters draft pick, staff has been working with Parks and Recreation and others to determine display locations for the six pieces selected. This update contains the latest information regarding each selected piece’s placement, for the Commission’s feedback:
• Low-Poly Open Heart (RIDE) - Festival Park (eastern pedestal)
• The Bird in all of Us - Miller Activity Complex
• Thought of a Treble Clef - Amphitheater at Philip S. Miller Park
• Courtship - Town Hall
• Mr. Toolman - Butterfield, Metzler Ranch or Mitchell Gulch park
• Stainless Wings II - to be determined wall location (Festival Park or elsewhere Downtown preferred)
