Title
Discussion/Direction: Preferred Pieces for the 2018 Art Encounters Program
Body

Discussion
Douglas County Art Encounters is a Countywide year-long outdoor sculpture exhibit. A Public Art Advisory Committee, with representatives from each participating jurisdiction, selects the artwork from applications submitted for the program. Commissioner Beard is this Commission’s representative on the Advisory Committee. (Staff member Zagurski also attends, when possible.)
The Art Encounters Advisory Committee is expected to conduct its round robin selection process on February 21, 2018. After that time, Staff Member Zagurski will work with the selected artists to secure pieces for placement in Castle Rock for the 2018-2019 Art Encounters season. In 2017-2018, we displayed five pieces through the program, along with one other rotating piece. Of note is that there are two new pedestals at Festival Park on which the Commission, working in collaboration with Parks and Recreation staff, may wish to place Art Encounters pieces.
Financial Information
The Town pays an $800 stipend to each artist whose work is displayed in Castle Rock through Art Encounters. If selected sites are not already prepared for pieces, installation costs may also apply.
Recommendation
Staff recommends that the Commission consider the eligible pieces and prioritize them for placement within Castle Rock.
