Executive Summary

This memo is provided to update Town Council on the recent inspection of the Town’s water system.  Approximately every three years, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) conducts an in-depth review and inspection of the Town’s water system, including reviewing written records and inspecting all of the major water facilities. A sanitary survey was performed September 6 through 8, 2017 by the Field Services Section of CDPHE’s Water Quality Control Division. The sanitary survey is required by law under Article 11 of the Colorado Primary Drinking Water Regulations and includes an on-site review of water sources, facilities, equipment, operation, and maintenance of a public water system for the purpose of evaluating the adequacy of the facilities for producing and distributing safe drinking water. We are pleased to report that CDPHE found no violations or deficiencies in the Town’s water system which is the same positive outcome from CDPHE’s last inspection of the Town’s system in 2013.

The intended goals of CDPHE’s sanitary survey program are:

Identify and address significant deficiencies and minor deficiencies

                     Provide assistance

Produce consistent, reliable reports which correctly identify the compliance and technical issues at a facility

                     Facilitate continuous improvement

o                     Accurately capture system inventory

o                     Identify system strengths

o                     Provide resources to the systems

Establish working relationships between systems and the Water Quality Control Division

Castle Rock Water takes great pride in providing safe, reliable, high quality drinking water to our community and works hard to maintain our system, and go above and beyond the requirements of CDPHE. A number of observations/recommendations were made by the State inspector and each recommendation was implemented immediately following the inspection. Castle Rock Water’s participation at the Gold Tier level in CDPHE’s Pursuing Excellence program is another testament to going above and beyond regulatory compliance obligations. We have a great team at Castle Rock Water and could not achieve this without our employees going above and beyond in their daily work performance.
