Executive Summary
Building on the success of 2016’s inaugural Town-wide civic academy, the Your Town Academy program was offered to the community again this year. A class of 30 residents and business owners was recruited in June. Classes kicked off Aug. 14, and since then, the class has learned about all aspects of Town operations.
The students have been receiving a puzzle piece each week of the academy, representing the aspect of Town government they learned about that evening. Tonight, we ask the Mayor to help present graduating students their final puzzle pieces, which signify their successful completion of the program.

The class received surveys each week to provide feedback on the program. Again this year, their comments were overwhelmingly positive and provided the project team helpful guidance on making the program even better in the future. Following are a couple of examples of participant feedback:
“This is a math class that I liked! This is a great program. I love Castle Rock … but getting to know and learn all the folks that help make this Town what it is today is downright inspiring.”
“Learning about the CR Fire and Rescue services was phenomenal!!! Understanding the challenges that our small town faces and yet seems to thrive in is a testament to the people that operate these services. After engaging in this session, I am more proud than ever to call Castle Rock home.”
Staff plans to offer Your Town Academy again in 2018. Applications will again be solicited in summer for a class beginning in the fall. Updates will be posted at CRgov.com/YTA.
