Presentation: My Water Pledge, the Mayor’s Challenge
Body
________________________________________________________________________________
Executive Summary
My Water Pledge is a friendly competition between cities across the United States to see who can be the most “water-wise.” Mayors nationwide will challenge their residents to conserve water, energy and other natural resources on behalf of their city through a series of informative, easy-to-use pledges online at MyWaterPledge.com. The online pledge asks a series of questions regarding individual conservation behavior and requires less than two minutes. The non-profit campaign is presented nationally by Toyota and the Wyland Foundation, in association with National League of Cities, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Office of Water, United States Service, and others. Participants are eligible for 1,000 prizes worth a total of $50,000 which include a car, home improvement gift certificates, smart irrigation controllers and shower heads. One city will be chosen
at random to receive a pocket park landscape makeover.
To increase participation, the pledges will be tied to ‘filling’ Castle Rock with the water that has been conserved. The goal is to get 750 residents to pledge, up from the 549 who pledged got last year. Not only will this ‘fill’ the Rock, it will increase our ranking at MyWaterPledge.com. Last year, we went from a rank of 473 to 4th. This year, we hope to get to 1st place, making our residents eligible for prizes from MyWaterPledge.com.
