Discussion/Direction: Perry Street at Third Street Intersection Traffic Control Upgrade

Executive Summary
The purpose of this item is to gain Town Council direction to construct a roundabout or a traffic signal at the intersection of Perry Street at Third Street. Second Street between Perry Street and Wilcox Street will be closing with the expansion of Festival Park next year. With the additional traffic volume projected to utilize the intersection of Perry Street at Third Street the existing two-way stop control cannot effectively handle the traffic volumes during typical peak hours of each weekday. A roundabout or a traffic signal are the two options that can effectively handle the projected volumes.
Staff Recommendation
Based on the overall benefits that a roundabout offers over a traffic signal at this location, the majority of support of the public feedback received for this option, and formal recommendations from the Downtown Merchants Association, Downtown Development Authority, and Public Works Commission, it is recommended that a roundabout be selected as the preferred option.

“I move to direct Staff to proceed with the necessary steps to construct a roundabout at the intersection of Perry Street at Third Street.”
