Title
2026 Safety Improvement Projects (Public Works)
Body
________________________________________________________________________________
Executive Summary
This memo presents the 2026 Safety Improvement Projects proposed for implementation using the Town’s Safety Fund (account 120-3175-431-75-25). The program focuses exclusively on projects with direct costs allocated within this budget and advances the Town’s Safety Action Plan by targeting locations with documented crash risk, community concern, and proximity to planned infrastructure work.
Projects are prioritized based on demonstrated safety needs across the community. To improve transparency and help residents better understand where investments are being made, the project list is organized by Town Council district. This format allows the public to more easily identify project locations within their area.
The total available budget is $600,405, which includes:
• $447,000 in adopted 2026 funding
• $153,405 in anticipated 2025 carryforward (pending Town Council approval)
From this carryforward, $14,120 has already been allocated to cover a 2025 pedestrian push button installation that was recently invoiced, and is therefore reflected in the remaining available balance.
The proposed projects emphasize proven safety countermeasures that improve conditions for vulnerable users, particularly pedestrians and school-aged children, while also addressing high-risk crash corridors. These improvements include pedestrian crossing enhancements, signal upgrades, roundabout safety modifications, and corridor-level operational improvements.
All projects included in this memo:
• Have identified construction costs within the Safety Fund
• Are expected to be delivered within the available budget
• Include planned outreach and construction timelines for 2026
To support decision-making and communication, the memo package includes:
• A vicinity map showing all project locations across Town. RRFB locations are shown in their respective concept summary.
• Single-page concept summaries for each project (scope, benefits, and visuals)
• A project list summarizing location, cost, outreach, construction timing, and remaining budget
With your concurrence, the next steps include finalizing quantities and cost estimates, preparing bid documents, coordinating public outreach, and proceeding with procurement and construction in alignment with the 2026 schedule.
