Title
Resolution of the Town Council of the Town of Castle Rock Approving the Renaming of Praxis Street to Atchison Way and Brickyard Lane
Body
________________________________________________________________________________
Executive Summary
Staff is requesting Town Council approval of a resolution to rename Praxis Street to Atchison Way, including naming a small stub roadway as Brickyard Lane. The proposed name changes will align with future roadway connectivity, improve wayfinding, and support ongoing development in the Brickyard area, including the Town’s Sports Development Center. Staff has reviewed the proposed names with Douglas County staff related to street names in the area, and recommends approval.

Background
Praxis Street is a new roadway currently under construction that will serve both the Brickyard and future Miller’s Landing developments. This roadway also provides public access from Plum Creek Parkway to the Town’s Sports Development Center, which is also under construction.
Praxis Street represents the future continuation of the existing Atchison Way roadway located to the north of the site. The Town’s Transportation Master Plan includes future plans to connect Atchison Way across the Industrial Tributary, ultimately creating a continuous roadway extending from Prairie Hawk Drive on the north to Plum Creek Parkway on the south.
Discussion
Renaming Praxis Street to Atchison Way at this stage of development provides several important benefits:
• Consistency with Future Connectivity
The renaming aligns with the long-term vision for Atchison Way as a continuous north-south corridor, as identified in the Transportation Master Plan.
• Improved Wayfinding and Public Safety
Establishing a continuous street name will reduce confusion for residents, visitors, and emergency responders as the corridor develops.
• Timing Advantage
Because no addresses have yet been assigned along Praxis Street, the renaming can occur without impacts to existing property owners or businesses. Additionally, the roadway, signal, and intersection improvements are currently under construction, making this an efficient time to implement the name change.
• Supporting Development Identity
A small east-west bend in the roadway (a stub road) will be named Brickyard Lane, which connects to the existing Brickyard Circle roadway. This naming reinforces the identity of the Brickyard development area and provides logical, intuitive navigation within the site.
Staff has reviewed the proposed names with Douglas County’s street naming staff and determined they are consistent with Town and County standards and do not conflict with existing street names.
Budget Impact
There is no significant fiscal impact associated with this action. Any minor administrative updates related to mapping, signage, or records will be handled through existing resources.
Staff Recommendation
Staff recommends approval of the resolution renaming Praxis Street to Atchison Way and naming the stub roadway as Brickyard Lane.
Proposed Motion
“I move to approve the Resolution approving the renaming of Praxis Street to Atchison Way and naming a portion of the roadway as Brickyard Lane.”
