Title
Proclamation: Mayor's Challenge Supporting April as Water Conservation Month (For Presentation)
Body
________________________________________________________________________________
Executive Summary
April is Water Conservation Month, and coincides with Earth Month. In celebration and to create awareness, the Town of Castle Rock proclaims (Attachment A) April as Water Conservation Month and encourages residents to take action for a sustainable water future. The goal for Castle Rock Water is to reduce gallons per capita daily (GPCD) from our current average of 118 GPCD to 100 GPCD by 2050. In coordination with the Proclamation, residents are invited to participate in three campaigns.
• The ColoradoScape contest was moved to April for higher visibility and is the opportunity for a Castle Rock Water resident to win a low-water front yard makeover. This social media campaign invites residents to submit a social media video about the benefits of water conservation in the landscape. Five finalists are chosen and the public is invited to like their favorite video. The entry with the most votes wins a ColoradoScape front yard valued at $8,000. For more information, residents can follow this link: <http://crconserve.com/245/ColoradoScape-Contest>
• My Water Pledge is a friendly competition between cities across the United States to see who can be the most “water-wise”. Mayors, nationwide, will challenge their residents to conserve water, energy and other natural resources on behalf of their city through a series of informative, easy-to-use pledges online at MyWaterPledge.com.
• As part of Castle Rock Water’s strategic plan, we partner with regional and statewide organizations to present a cohesive message about the importance of water. Water ’22 is sponsored by Water Education Colorado and endorsed by the Colorado Water Conservation Board and Governor Polis, and invites Colorado residents to take 22 steps to save 22 gallons of water per month.
