Body
________________________________________________________________________________
Executive Summary
The Castle Rock Parks and Trails Foundation received a $4,715.15 award through the Town’s 2025 Art and Culture Grant Program to help transform an existing ponderosa pine stump along Hangman’s Gulch Trail into a hand-carved cowboy sculpture celebrating Castle Rock’s Western heritage. The Foundation contributed the remaining $1,284.85 toward the $6,000 project.
The carving is now complete. As part of their grant application, the Foundation plans to donate the completed artwork to the Town for inclusion in the public art collection. The Foundation also plans to conduct a community naming contest and coordinate with the Town on an identification plaque.
Staff will work with the Foundation to determine an appropriate date for a small dedication event and complete the steps necessary to formally accept and document the artwork. Additional information will be shared with the Commission as plans are finalized. Photographs of the completed carving are available in Attachment A.
No Commission discussion or action is scheduled.
