Executive Summary

Castle Rock Water held its third annual ColoradoScape Contest, July 15 - Aug. 22. This unique effort is designed to spread the idea about how colorful and versatile a water-wise landscape can be by using social media for the contest give away. Education is key and customers submit a 15 to 30 second video on social media, creatively explaining why they need a low-water landscape. The collection of these video applications is pared down to 5 which are then put up on the Town’s social media to be voted on by the public. The one with the most votes wins an $8,000 front yard makeover. This effort is relegated to the front yard to further promote the idea of ColoradoScape to neighbors on a long-term, continuous basis. The budget consideration is $8,000 with some items donated. In 2019, there were 30 videos with a reach of 30,000 and in 2020, there were 21 with a reach of 25,000. Despite fewer entries, we hope to get a bigger reach this year.

For the 2021 contest, the Town has collected a handful of videos which we would like the Water Commission to pare down to 5. Messaging is key and for the Water Commission to decide on the top 5, Commissioners should rate each one, for creativity, message and likability. A rating rubric will be provided.
