Title
Tiny Art Quest Artwork Selection
Body
________________________________________________________________________________
Executive Summary
The purpose of this agenda item if for the Public Art Selection Committee to choose final artwork to be featured in the inaugural Tiny Art Quest. Part scavenger hunt, part mini-art installation, the quest will feature tiny artworks by tiny artists in and around Festival Park.
In January, the Commission approved participating in the quest and recommended the selection of approximately ten works of art to be featured from elementary- and middle-school aged children who either attend school or are residents of Castle Rock.
A call was posted for artwork in May and over 50 submissions were received. The jurying panel will consist of members of the commission, representatives from Castle Rock Christian Academy and from KidzArt.
Once ten finalists are selected, Amy Fleet, art teacher from Castle Rock Christian Academy and Maia Yates, staff liaison to the Public Art Commission, will partner to select locations for the artwork, seek Parks and Recreation staff approvals and produce and install the art through vinyl application.
It is also recommended to host an official “grand opening” event and program launch in August and formally invite the kids whose artwork is selected to participate. Staff will coordinate with the Town’s Communications Division to complete community outreach as well.
