Executive Summary
The Pursuing Excellence Program, sponsored in part by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, recognizes systems that go above and beyond regulatory compliance and helps systems collaborate and learn from each other. In March, the Town of Castle Rock was the first water provider to receive the Gold Tier in the Pursuing Excellence Program. In addition to recognizing those steps taken by Castle Rock Water in being a leader in the industry, other systems will have access to the Town’s best practices, as well as a wide range of plans exemplifying advancing water technologies. A couple of these plans included a new billing process saving the utility around $50,000, static mixers installation to minimize the degradation of residual disinfectant and an extensive energy management plan that has reduced energy usage by 1.6 million kWh.
Projects in 2016 are currently being documented for next year’s application in efforts to continue to earn the Gold and to continue in our efforts to be a leader in the industry.
In recognition of the gold tier, Castle Rock Water will be receiving a cash award in the amount of $1,000. Staff has contacted the Douglas County Task Force and proposes to donate the award to the Task Force to use these dollars for residents who need assistance paying their water bills. All of the dollars will stay within Castle Rock. Castle Rock Water will receive a reporting from the Task Force as to who has benefited from these funds.
We are pleased to introduce Kaitlyn Minich, Local Assistance Project Lead with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment to present the plaque to members of Town Council.
