Resolution: Approving The First Amendment To Personal Service Contract with the Municipal Judge

Executive Summary
In order to efficiently and effectively handle an increase in the number of municipal citations, the Municipal Court added a fourth Court Session to its monthly docket beginning in May 2015.
The Municipal Judge is appointed by the Town Council every two years, and the amount of his compensation is set in the Professional Services Agreement approved by the Council. The current contract is in the amount of $23,100 and expires at the end of December 2015. This amount was based on the previous court schedule of three court sessions per month.
In order to fairly compensate the Municipal Judge for the additional court session, an amendment to his contract in the amount of $5,136 is needed. This figure is based on breaking out the amount of the original contract to obtain a per session payment, and multiplying this payment by the eight, additional sessions the Judge will hold between May and December 2015.
Budget Impact
The amount of the increase in the Judge’s contract is $5,136. This amount was included in the 2015 budget in anticipation of adding the fourth court session, so no budget amendment is required.
