Executive Summary

The Planning Commission, together with Town Council, accomplished many things in 2015.  The Town’s Community Review Team met over a six-month period to provide input on the draft Comprehensive Plan Update. The team included all members of the Planning Commission, citizen leaders, and key stakeholder groups.  In addition, the Planning Commission developed a program for its inaugural Annual Trolley Tour, reviewing best practices from past development approvals.   The Planning Commission updated its bylaws, attended the annual legal training, and invited the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to present the latest information on Town flood maps, etc.  The Planning Commission supported a number of land use actions for the new Promenade development project.  And, the Planning Commission worked with Town staff on informative updates from key partners, such as the DDA and Economic Development.

The Planning Commission is now seeking input and direction from the Town Council on their 2016 Work Plan.  A large portion of the Planning Commission’s charge this year will be working on key implementation action items from the Comprehensive Plan, including plan, code, and ordinance reviews.  There were some other areas that the Commission desired to include in the work plan as well, including tours of community facilities and joint sessions with other boards and commissions.  The Commission would like to know if the Town Council agrees with the outline of their Draft Work Plan (Attachment A).  The Commission also would like to know if the Council has any other initiatives that they would like the Commission to consider in the coming year.

Planning Commission and Staff Recommendation
