Executive Summary

July staff updates include:

The production of the giant Adirondack chair featuring Lynn Hurley’s artwork is nearing completion and may be delivered to Castle Rock this week for placement at Festival Park. Due to the high quality of submissions received to the art call, it was determined by parks and recreation staff to request the production of an additional chair to be featured at Philip S. Miller Park. This chair will feature a design that was submitted by artist Jason Tracewell that was later modified per staff recommendations (Attachment A). The second chair has been ordered and will likely also be delivered this summer.

Town Manager Dave Corliss will be attending board and commission meetings throughout July and August to provide educational information on upcoming ballot initiatives. Dave plans to attend the Aug. 8 Public Art Commission meeting and will arrive around 5 p.m.

Member Dana Frazee has been coordinating with the Chamber of Commerce on Artfest attendance and believes that all arts groups will be placed adjacent to one another at the event, including the Tri Arts Project, the Castle Rock Artist Alliance the Public Art Commission. Staff recommend confirming the activities the commission would like to host at Artfest this month and next to allow preparation time. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 7 and Sunday, Sept. 8 in Downtown Castle Rock.
