Executive Summary

In 2022, it was determined to remove Tribal Jam from Metzler Ranch Park due to extensive damage to the sculptures. The commissioned artwork also featured reliefs that were set into the skate park and painted. To help save funds for conservation work, Vice Chair Stephanie Brueggemann suggested holding a volunteer project to have high school students help touch up the painted reliefs. It was also noted that prior to removing the sculpture from the park, staff would need to contact the artist, as well as distribute a memo to the Parks and Recreation Director, Town Manager and potentially Town Council to provide notification of the change to the park/facility. Staff would also post signs to advise the community and hold a public hearing at the Commission’s April meeting as these are the steps typically completed to obtain feedback prior to changing or removing amenities at facilities. Members decided to continue this discussion at their meeting regular March meeting, as well as determine where Groovy Peace Sign should be installed. Staff recommend that members continue to finalize details pertaining to these items.
