Executive Summary
The purpose of this agenda item is for members and staff to provide updates on and discuss the strategic initiatives identified in the public art plan for the following thematic goals: the beautification of public spaces, community engagement, conservation and maintenance, creating an arts destination, making art part of the conversation and public/private funding.
April updates will include:
• Reviewing options and determining the project scope for the Wolfensberger and Wilcox Lot temporary art installation. Artist Mary Williams, who submitted a proposal to the original call for artwork at the site, will be in attendance to present various artwork options and design considerations.
• Staff updates on the annual board and commission recruitment process.
• Determining installation locations for this year’s selected Douglas County Art Encounters sculptures.
• Discussing potentially moving the sculpture Sweet Tooth to an empty landscaped bed by Cof33 to further beautify the plaza area and increase the visibility and community engagement of the sculpture, which is currently installed at Fourth and Perry streets. Since the landscaped bed is on HOA property, Encore’s HOA would need to approve the placement, followed up by the execution of an agreement with the Town.
• Staff updates on social media and newsletter outreach.
• Reviewing the feedback received from Town staff on the Art and Culture Grant Program.
• Reviewing the photography proposal received to capture photos of the public art collection.
• Castle Rock Art and Culture Foundation Board Member updates on recent meetings.
• Staff updates on the internal review of location options for the proposed sculpture series, The Big Drive.
