Downtown Art Project Planning

Executive Summary
In August, the Public Art Commission reviewed its Public Art Plan and decided to begin project planning to accomplish Goal Three, which is to create pedestrian-scale art experiences in Downtown Castle Rock. At this meeting, the Commission also approved a motion to establish a subcommittee with the purpose of aiding in the selection of art and completing project research. After assessing various options, the Commission provided direction for the subcommittee to consider electrical box wraps, murals and positive messaging campaigns.
In August and early September, the Subcommittee hosted a planning meeting and met with staff of the Downtown Alliance to provide a general summary of the direction the Commission was heading. At the September Public Art Commission meeting, however, some concern was expressed related to the meeting with the Downtown Alliance, which some had envisioned would happen as group at a regularly scheduled meeting. It was noted that a future discussion should be held to better define the roles, responsibilities and expectations of the subcommittee as well as the project.
Staff recommend that members continue its discussion of the Downtown Art Project and discuss the expectations and roles of the subcommittee as the Commission deems appropriate.
