Executive Summary
The Ordinance was approved on first reading June 5, 2018, by a vote of 5-1. As directed, the elector signature requirement for a mayoral petition was amended from 15 signatures per district to 10. No other changes were made to the Ordinance.
As directed by Town Council, this ordinance amends the Town Election Code to insert the requirements for Mayor candidates to qualify for the ballot and make certain corresponding changes to the Councilmember candidate petition process.
A Mayoral petition must contain at least fifteen signatures of registered electors from each of the six Council districts.
A registered elector may only sign one Councilmember petition and one Mayor petition.
Both a Mayoral and Councilmember petition must be personally circulated and signatures affixed in the presence of the nominee.
