Executive Summary

The purpose of this agenda item is for members and staff to provide updates on and discuss the strategic initiatives identified in the public art plan for the following thematic goals: the beautification of public spaces, community engagement, conservation and maintenance, creating an arts destination, making art part of the conversation and public/private funding.

June updates will include:

Staff continue to coordinate contract details with vendor for facility vinyl wrap installation at Festival Park. Once the contract is approved, they hope to move as quickly as possible to complete the artwork installation and anticipate an installation prior to the close of the month.

Staff have confirmed that the sculpture Sweet Tooth can be moved to the art site off of Wilcox Street by Town Hall to replace And the Wheels Go Round. Staff also recommended moving And the Wheels Go Round to the vacant art pedestal at the Plum Creek Parkway and Gilbert Street intersection or considering relocating the sculpture to the HOA landscaped bed near Cof33. The later action would require HOA approval and the execution of some type of agreement between the Town and HOA.

Staff updates on Douglas County Art Encounters as the installations are complete. Countywide partners are now working on preparing plaques and information for distribution prior to news release announcements across the region.

Staff updates on ongoing social media and newsletter outreach.

Reviewing a draft evaluation rubric and discussing the composition of the review panel for the inaugural Art and Culture Grant Program.
