Rising Star Scholarship Communications Plan Update

The Youth Commission at its December meeting approved the 2026 Rising Star Scholarship. Town staff and Youth Commission members have been implementing a related communications plan, on which staff would like to provide an update. Jackson Young is the Commission’s lead on this initiative.
Staff has no new updates on the distribution of a promotional flyer to schools using the PeachJar system. Since the last Youth Commission meeting, the flyer has been shared with all Youth Commission members so that they may disseminate it, as well as with the Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce, for the same purpose.
Also since the last Youth Commission meeting, Vice Chair Reynolds collaborated with the Town’s Neighborhood Liaison to get information about the scholarship out to homeowners associations within Castle Rock.
Youth Commission members are planning to have a table at Castle View and Douglas County high schools and at Renaissance Secondary during February to share information about the scholarship. Supplies for this are available for pick-up at tonight’s meeting.
Chair George and Treasurer Young presented a Youth Commission update at the February 3 Town Council meeting that included information about the scholarship. Town Communications issued a public update following that meeting, which highlighted information about the scholarship. Town Communications also issued a news release about the scholarship on February 5 through the Town’s website and social media channels.
Social media updates are planned for every other week while scholarship applications remain open, which is through the end of March. Town Communications staff has reached out to Treasurer Young to collaborate on the content for these posts.
